Why Choose Us
The Case for a Different Kind of Course
Where most financial education has a commercial conclusion, Golden Abacus has a question: what do you actually need to know before you decide?

What Sets Our Approach Apart
No Sales Objective
Revenue comes entirely from course fees. There is no affiliated product, no referral arrangement, no incentive to steer participants toward any particular conclusion. This is structurally unusual in this field.
Unhurried Pace
Programmes run over four, six or ten weeks. The pacing reflects the material: subjects that reward patience are taught patiently. There is no attempt to compress complex historical data into a single session.
Hong Kong–Specific
Every access route, regulatory reference and cost comparison in our programmes is relevant to Hong Kong–based individual investors. There is no adaptation needed from a foreign context.
Evidence-Based Content
All empirical claims are sourced and cited in writing. Where the evidence is contested or ambiguous — and in this field it frequently is — that ambiguity is stated plainly rather than resolved artificially.
Small, Engaged Groups
Cohorts are limited to twelve. The result is genuine discussion rather than passive reception. Participants frequently report that conversation with peers is as valuable as the structured content itself.
Materials That Remain Useful
Written course materials are produced to be kept, annotated and returned to. They are designed as reference documents, not handouts — which means they serve participants long after the programme ends.
Expertise
Subject Knowledge Without a Sales Agenda
Our educators carry genuine backgrounds in fixed income, commodity markets and financial research. That experience shapes the content — but more importantly, none of us earns a commission. Our knowledge has no commercial direction.
This matters because the alternative assets space is populated by articulate people with strong financial incentives. Distinguishing between education and advocacy requires structural independence, and we have built ours carefully.
Educators with institutional research and asset management backgrounds
Curriculum reviewed annually against current academic literature
No financial interest in participant decisions or product allocations
Pre-session reading materials sent in advance of each module
Structured written self-review in the ten-week programme
Calm pagination of complex data — no dense single-screen information overload
Process
A Programme Structure That Serves Learning
Our programmes are designed around how adults actually absorb and retain complex financial information — not around what is easiest to deliver. Pre-reading, in-session discussion and written review are built into the structure, not optional extras.
The sequencing of modules is deliberate: each one builds on the previous, creating a cumulative picture rather than a series of disconnected topics.
Service Quality
Considered Handling at Every Point
Enquiries are answered thoughtfully and without pressure. We will tell you clearly if a particular programme does not suit your current level of familiarity or your questions — and suggest a better starting point if so.
Post-programme access to the teaching team for six months is included in the course fee. The relationship does not end when the final session does.
Honest assessment of programme suitability before enrolment
Six months post-completion access to teaching team for questions
Participant information kept strictly private; never shared with third parties
Fixed fee per programme — no hidden charges or add-on content costs
Written materials, pre-reading and post-programme access all included
Separate programmes allow entry at the level of familiarity that suits you
Value
Clear Pricing, Comprehensive Inclusion
Fees range from HKD 1,680 to HKD 3,080 depending on programme length. Every programme includes all written materials, pre-session reading and the post-completion access period. There are no additional charges for content.
Participants may begin with the four-week course and progress through the longer programmes as their interest develops — each one independently coherent, each building naturally on the last.
Outcomes
What Participants Take Away
Participants complete our programmes better equipped to evaluate claims about gold and alternative assets, to read cost structures accurately, and to ask sharper questions of any adviser or provider they subsequently consult.
That is the outcome we aim for: not a decision made, but a decision that, when it comes, is properly informed. The distinction matters when the horizon is your own retirement.
Clearer understanding of the historical evidence for various portfolio roles of gold
Accurate reading of access route costs and liquidity differences
A personal written self-review of current holdings (ten-week programme)

Distinctive Features
What We Offer That Others Do Not
The Written Self-Review
The ten-week programme includes a structured written self-review of each participant's current holdings. This is a private document — it stays with the participant — but the process of completing it is often described as the most practically useful part of the course.
Pre-Session Reading, Not Slides
Session time is spent on discussion and clarification, not on presenting information that could be read privately. Pre-session reading is sent in advance so that the group can engage with the material rather than receive it passively.
Honest on What Remains Open
The historical role of gold in portfolios is genuinely disputed in the academic literature. Our programmes explain why, what each side of the argument shows, and what this means for a pre-retiree trying to think clearly about allocation.
A Curriculum Built for 40s and 50s
The programmes are calibrated for people at a specific life stage: long enough horizons to make some alternative allocations worth examining, close enough to retirement that cost structures and liquidity matter more than they did before.
